On the Road Again...
A nice, everyday example of rhythm. The white lines help divide up the dominant, grey frame. They create rhythm through the alternation of line, space, line. The rhythm is fast because of multiple line breaks, and irregular because it increases with speed as they get smaller.

I Should Have Been Born in California
(Friday?) While this picture was purely for aesthetic and selfish intent, i also realized how it could also be an example of induced movement. As the clouds move in the background, i can appear to transfer movement to the pole. The beautiful sunset almost made waking up at 3 worth it.

Who Forgot the E-Brake?
(This can be for.. tuesday.. :)) This one actually got me. I was standing outside the van, looking through the window as the other van's door opened and--through the limited, frame like, view of the window--it looked as if my van was moving. This is a good example of induced movement.

Security Took Too Long
(This can be for Monday last week) I was noticing how fast objects and people were moving as i went in the opposite direction, and saw the window frames in the background. I think all three components (their left movement, my right movement, and the lines they cross in the background) combined and in motion create a high intensity of movement.

CA
This photo wasn't terribly well done, and i missed the really good one a few miles before. I was trying to get the different convergence of traffic going all sorts of directions simultaneously. I tried to get the bridge over top, the curved oncoming, regular oncoming, and extending traffic in front too. There is a sense of commotion and yet control at the same time. Chaotic, while also boring. I guess thats California.

This video was an attempt to capture both the essence of the game being played, and establish the joy in taking breaks. I wanted to use a combination of wide shots, medium shots, and close ups to focus on the game being played and teams, etc. My main idea was to introduce the game from a close up on the net, out to a wide of all the characters in the scene. I think that part worked out very well, because as I came up to the wide the team on my side scored, so I was able to capture a 'mini' celebration with them. Equally good was the same effect on the other side, wit the other team a minute or so later.
Visually there were several aspects I enjoyed, and some that didn't work as well as I had planned. The intro looks really good, the framing all comes in nicely, with some good sun flares and composition. The characterization was also fun, since my roommates had been playing for a good ten minutes and were forgetting about the odd camera man following them around. Things that didn't work out too well were the ball getting bounced far away from the shot. This took time for them to get back, without much interesting footage back at the base since we were all standing around waiting. Also, the timing was hard since they cut it short just after 2 min, assuming they'd played enough. All is well, and I'm happy with hoe it worked out.

REDRUM
Really just trying to take full advantage of this red wall i have at my house. We have a nice light blue painting, and i wanted to see if it would change against the red wall. Surprisingly the red seems to stick out more, whereas i thought it would be the cyan. I guess because the red is only on the outside portions of the farm, where the blue and white are dominant, the red became the susceptible color. Looks good.

If I told Dean About This, He'd Look at Me Like I Was Pooping
I hope the reference isn't too lost from our class-discussion-memory.... Anyways, i was trying to get a good complementary color mixture, to boost saturation. I have a nice red wall, and was able to use it as a backdrop with the already red/cyan bottle cover. It's almost like they also purposefully used red and cyan or something........

Don't Panic
I was just walking around campus looking for some fun color shots, and i saw this. I chose it because of the red against an almost all green background. Since these two are complementary colors, i figured it would trigger a stronger contrast in hue, making the red pop more. I thing it worked pretty well, although the green is a little dull, so that is something i would improve next time. I also like the composition.

Full?
(For Friday 10/9) I played around with using a hard light source to create coincidence tone and reveal the same subject. A bit of a noir look to it (naturally due to the black and white) but it worked out pretty decently. The whole tone of the farm is several shades darker than the one whit bowl, so the viewers eyes are drawn there.

Not Dominoes
Im back at this horror feel. I was trying to give just enough light on the foreground, so that the audience could make out that it was a door, and then shed just enough onto the subject to see him--but not identify him (again with non coincidence tone, because he is hidden in the dark tones behind him, overpowered by the white walls and lit door in front of him.) I learned mostly how to angle the light, and shadow subject with affinity of background tone against contrast of foreground tone; not exactly textbook official, but i think it gives it a nice effect.
What the--?!
( For Tuesday Oct 6th)At it again with some attempts at non-coincidence. This turned out much better than yesterday's photo, so i am well pleased. While although the tonal difference reveals a figure, making it a mixture really of coincidence and non-coincidence, i think that due to the figure being so obscure (a very old, stone gargoyle) it is difficult to identify with only the back lit. I learned to really push a contrast between front and background tonal contrast, hence the white wall, and i think that is what made the difference in this photo.

Oh no, it's....!
(Monday Oct 5th) This was just a fun experiment with tonal non-coincidence. So, naturally, I wanted to hide the subject (his face) and hint at some other suspense. The knife works well, though over the top, the diagonal lines worked pretty well also, since it seems in your face and shaky. The face is still a little lit.. so that's an issue, but it's all a work in progress.

This video was an experiment with contrast with dynamic against flat shots. I tried to create humor and action through individual shots within the scene, but ultimately through the contrast of switching between the two. I used dynamic angles, zooms, and camera motion to create a sense of action, and flat, stationary shots for humor. While i feel that several of the contrasted shots worked effectively, the film is too fast overall, and i learned to try to take things slower. If i repeated this film, i would pay attention to the flow of certain shots in the overall piece: particularly when he drinks water, arrives at the crosswalk and his motive for drinking water.

Finding Center (for Thursday Oct 1st)
The tilt is a little too much. However, i was following in the footsteps of some other students, going for a "Kubrick" style photo with line and all. I really like how it all converges to a central point, even the reflected lights in the window seem to point to a middle.
